Birmingham is the home of Cadbury chocolate and at Cadbury World, in the southern suburb of Bourneville, you can learn all about chocolate and take advantage of the free samples.
Although Cadbury World is on the grounds of Cadbury’s Bournville factory, it is not a factory tour as you are not able to visit the production line. However, there is still plenty to see here.
The attraction is organised into 14 zones that tell the story of chocolate including its origins in Aztec Mexico, its introduction to Europe and the history of Cadbury. There are also zones about the chocolate manufacturing process, workshops where you can have a go at making your own chocolate, a green screen zone where you can have your photo taken surfing on a giant chocolate bar (just don’t wear green clothing in front of the green screen otherwise the photo won’t turn out right) and a 4D cinema experience.
Like all good chocolate-based tourist attractions, you can finish off with a hot chocolate in the Cadbury cafe and exit through the gift shop (which in this case is the world’s biggest Cadbury shop).
Most visitors spend 3–4 hours visiting Cadbury World.
