Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield

The Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Sheffield is a historic hotel located on the edge of Sheffield city centre. It combines 19th-century architecture with modern amenities, offering accommodation in a grand setting. The hotel provides easy access to transport links and key attractions while being slightly removed from the busiest parts of the city.

Originally opened in 1862 as the Royal Victoria Hotel, this Grade II listed building was built to serve travellers arriving at the now-demolished Sheffield Victoria railway station. Its Victorian architecture, high ceilings and grand staircase reflect its past as a prestigious railway hotel. The building has retained much of its historical character, making it an interesting choice for travellers looking for somewhere charming to stay.

The hotel has 105 air-conditioned rooms spread across three floors, including several wheelchair-accessible options. Each room includes a work desk, a flatscreen TV, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and en suite bathroom facilities. The decor combines traditional and modern elements, with some rooms featuring period details. Rooms are well maintained, and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are clean, though some fixtures show signs of age.

Guests have access to a gym, included in the room rate. There is no swimming pool or spa, but the hotel has a bar and restaurant. The Grand Lounge serves drinks and light meals in a relaxed setting, while Cunningham’s Restaurant offers a mix of British and international dishes. Breakfast includes continental and cooked options and is served in the main dining area. It is included in some room rates but costs extra for other guests.

If you’re driving, you can park in the hotel’s car park, which costs £6 per night.

From here, most points of interest in the city centre are between a 10- and a 25-minute walk away with the Peace Gardens, Graves Art Gallery, Millennium Gallery, the National Emergency Services Museum, Sheffield Cathedral and the Winter Garden all around a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
