DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa

The DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa is a large full-service hotel set in a historic building just north of the centre of Harrogate. It offers a broad range of facilities, including a spa and several places to eat and drink. The hotel suits travellers who want a traditional setting with modern amenities and who prefer a location within easy walking distance of the town’s main attractions.

The building dates from the late 19th century and was designed as a grand hotel during Harrogate’s spa heyday. It sits on landscaped grounds above the town and reflects the scale and ambition of that era. Over the decades, the hotel has hosted conferences and social events and it remains one of the larger historic hotels in the region.

The hotel underwent an extensive £15 million renovation project in 2018–2019, after which it was rebranded as a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

The hotel has 184 rooms spread across several floors. Rooms vary in size and layout due to the age of the building. Standard rooms include a comfortable bed, a work desk, a flatscreen television, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and an en suite bathroom. The decor is traditional, fitting with the historic nature of the building, but the hotel’s recent renovation means that rooms don’t look as dated as many other hotels with similar interior styling.

Public amenities are extensive. There is a spa with treatment rooms, a gym and a swimming pool.

The hotel also has a bar and restaurant. Frederick’s Lounge Bar offers a relaxing place to enjoy a quiet drink in opulent surroundings and Carters Champagne Bar & Grill is an elegant full-service restaurant noted for its meat cooked in a Josper Grill.

Breakfast is served in Carters Champagne Bar & Grill as a buffet with cooked and continental options. It is sometimes included in the room rate, but in many cases it carries a surcharge, which can be significant, so it is worth checking at the time of booking.

The hotel is in Harrogate’s just north of the town centre, close to the Harrogate Convention Centre and most points of interest in central Harrogate are a 5–15-minute walk from the hotel. The immediate area is a mix of hotels and residential streets. It is generally calm, although traffic can increase during conference periods. The gardens at the front of the hotel give some separation from the main roads. For most visitors the location is convenient and the town centre is easy to reach on foot.

Both Harrogate bus and railway stations are around a 10–12-minute walk from the hotel with regular buses and trains running to Leeds, York and Knaresborough. Bus 36, which goes to Ripon and Leeds, stops on Ripon Road, just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel.
