The newly refurbished ibis Styles Manchester Portland Hotel is a quirky 3.5-star hotel within easy walking distance to both Piccadilly station and the Northern Quarter.
The hotel has 229 relatively small bedrooms. These start with the solo, just a single bed, then move up to the compact, a small double room, the duet, with two single beds and the queen, the largest room with a queen-size double bed. There are also two wheelchair-accessible rooms.
All rooms come with air conditioning, a television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities, free Wi-Fi wireless internet access and an en suite bathroom.
Despite its 19th-century facade, the hotel is decorated in a quirky modern style. Although it won’t appeal to everyone, it is bright and cheerful with a colour palette of blues and yellows with a weather theme with cloud-shaped tables, umbrellas incorporated into the interior design and meteorological maps on the walls. The design is geared towards younger travellers and it is refreshing for a hotel from a large chain to have such a unique style that would normally be associated with a smaller boutique hotel.
Facilities include the Jamboree Foodfest and Bar with an eclectic international menu and the Portland Street Bar.
The ibis Styles Manchester Portland Hotel is very centrally located on Portland Street near Piccadilly Gardens, around halfway between Manchester Piccadilly railway station and the Arndale Centre. It is very close to the bars and restaurants in the Northern Quarter.
