The Macdonald Manchester Hotel, just south of Manchester Piccadilly railway station, is the largest four-star hotel in Manchester. The hotel is a massive building that stretches from Manchester Piccadilly railway station to the Mancunian Way motorway and has 338 guest rooms on its eight levels.
Both the exterior and interior of the building look a little bland and the hotel does lack character compared with smaller hotels in Manchester, however, the standard of accommodation is high.
The hotel has a spa and gym, but there is no swimming pool. There is also a lounge bar where you can relax with a drink and a snack and the Scottish Steakhouse restaurant that specialises in steak cooked on a Josper Grill.
The hotel has on-site car parking, but this costs £20 per night.
The location is not that attractive, wedged between a railway line and several busy roads including a motorway, but the hotel is less than a five-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly railway station and most points of interest in the city centre are no more than a 20-minute walk.
Despite the busy location, the hotel has excellent soundproofing with triple-glazed windows to ensure a good night’s sleep for all but the lightest sleeper.
