The Macdonald Windsor Hotel is a four-star hotel in a Georgian townhouse across the road from Windsor Castle.
Considering the hotel’s modest street-frontage you would hardly expect this hotel to contain 120 guest bedrooms. While it is a relatively large hotel, it manages to feel cosy and intimate.
The hotel rooms feature comfortable beds, a small work desk, a flat-screen television, ironing facilities, minibars (with complimentary bottled water), tea and coffee making facilities (with Nespresso machines) and en-suite bathrooms. Most rooms are 20m² (215 sq ft).
The more expensive executive rooms have views of Windsor Castle, while standard rooms look into the hotel’s small courtyard.
The decor in the rooms features regal touches such heavy use of burgundy and purple tones although the decor in the restaurant is more subdued with neutral greys and browns.
Like other Macdonald hotels, the hotel restaurant has a focus on Scottish steak. If you’re not in the mood for steak, there are plenty of other places to eat and drink nearby. Although breakfast here is overpriced, lunch and dinner are surprisingly affordable for a restaurant in a hotel of this standard.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The Macdonald Windsor Hotel has a very central location right on the High Street in the heart of Windsor. It is only a one-minute walk to Windsor Castle, a five-minute walk to Windsor and Eton Central railway station and a seven-minute walk to Windsor and Eton Riverside railway station.
Limited car parking is available, but must be pre-booked and is very expensive at £30.
