Several companies operate tours to Liverpool’s main Beatles sights but the main tour operator is the Magical Mystery Tour, which runs two-hour tours to sites connected to the Beatles. The Magical Mystery Tour is also the closest thing to an official tour in that it is operated by the Cavern Club where the Beatles first made it big in the UK.
Tours depart from the Magical Mystery Tour booking office near Beatles Story at Albert Dock and finish at the Cavern Club on Matthew Street. The tour includes the following sights:
- Ringo Starr’s childhood home
- George Harrison’s birthplace
- Penny Lane
- St Peter’s Church Hall (where John and Paul first met)
- Strawberry Field
- John Lennon’s childhood home
- Paul McCartney’s childhood home
- The Art College, the Liverpool Institute (now known as LIPA) and other former schools and colleges of John, Paul, George and Ringo
Some of these sites you simply see from the bus, but passengers get off the bus at Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and George and Paul’s childhood homes.
Your Magical Mystery Tour ticket also gives you general admission to the Cavern Club at the end of the tour, although it doesn’t include admission to ticketed shows at the club.
