Mimi’s Soho is a great accommodation option with a brilliant central London location. Not only does it have a great location, it also has lots of character and, while it has some of London’s smallest rooms, not all the rooms are tiny.
The 53 guest rooms all have comfortable beds, a flatscreen television, tea-and-coffee-making facilities (including a pod espresso machine) and a nice en suite bathroom with a good rainfall shower and Molton Brown toiletries. Amenities are relatively minimal as the rooms are quite small, although the larger 18m² and 21m² rooms also have ironing facilities.
Rooms start at the tiny 6m² single room and the next step up is the 7m² double, and these are some of the smallest rooms you can find in London. However, the hotel also has regular-size rooms with a selection of 14m², 18m² and 21m² rooms.
When I visited to review this hotel, I stayed in the smallest room which is a big step up from the other 6m² rooms that I have stayed in. However, it may be a little too small for some people.
Some of the rooms, including the one I stayed in, don’t have windows. I didn’t mind not having a window and felt that this made the room quieter and more conducive to a good night’s sleep. However, I did find it inconvenient not having a work desk in my room.
The decor consists of dark wood panelling, and this darker colour scheme gives the hotel a lot more charm than you would normally find in a London hotel.
Although it is a relatively small hotel, it does have fairly good public areas on the ground floor consisting of a nice bar that can get busy during the evening.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The location is unbeatable. It is right on Frith Street in the heart of Soho. Bar Italia is just across the street, it’s only a couple of doors up from Ronnie Scott’s and it is only a one-minute walk to Soho Square.
The central location means that there is quite a lot of interest within easy walking distance from the hotel. Many of the West End theatres and the shops on Oxford Street and Regent Street are an easy walk away and Leicester Square, the London Transport Museum, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Photographers’ Gallery, St Martin-in-the-Fields as well as Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square are all within a 15-minute walk.
Tottenham Court Road tube station is only a four-minute walk away and, in the other direction, it’s around an eight-minute walk to Leicester Square.
