The Playden Oasts Inn is a traditional inn that is housed in a set of former oast houses (brick kilns used for drying hops) in Playden, the village immediately north of Rye.
It is a historic Grade II-listed building that operated as an oast house right up until the early 1970s before being converted into a private members’ club. It has operated as a small hotel since the late 1970s
The Playden Oasts Inn is a small boutique hotel with only eight guest rooms. All rooms have comfortable beds, flat-screen televisions, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathroom facilities. The roundel rooms at the top of the oast houses are unique with unconventional round king-size beds. Several of the rooms are pet-friendly and one of these has its own private garden.
All guests have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access and an excellent breakfast is included in the price.
The hotel has two restaurants (one is more pub-like and the other is more restaurant-like) that serve traditional food made from locally sourced ingredients and they offer an all-day roast on Sundays.
The Playden Oasts Inn is in Playden, a neighbouring village just 1.6km (1 mile) north of Rye. It is around a 20-minute walk into the centre of Rye and a 24-minute walk to Rye railway station. The immediate area is semi-rural and there is not much within a short walk but fortunately, there are a couple of eating and drinking options on the premises. It has free parking which makes it quite a good option if you’re driving.
