Premier Inn Sheffield City Centre (St Marys Gate)

The Premier Inn Sheffield City Centre (St Marys Gate) hotel offers budget-friendly accommodation near the southern end of Sheffield’s city centre.

The hotel’s guest rooms are split between double, twin and family rooms. All rooms feature comfortable Hypnos beds, a chair, a writing desk, a flat-screen television, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and an en suite bathroom.

This hotel sports Premier Inn’s new Next Evolution Style room design. This is an updated design slowly being rolled out across Premier Inn hotels, offering a more modern decor, a larger smart TV, built-in USB ports, improved lighting and updated bathrooms. It means that this hotel is nicer than your standard Premier Inn hotel.

The hotel also has Premier Plus rooms, which are a step above a standard room. These rooms feature faster Wi-Fi, a better workspace, a small fridge, a Nespresso coffee machine and in-room ironing facilities.

All rooms have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access (up to 1GB per day).

The hotel also features a Thyme Bar & Grill restaurant with a menu of casual dining options such as burgers, curries, steaks and pub-style favourites such as pies and fish and chips. The hotel restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.

The Premier Inn Sheffield City Centre (St Marys Gate) is in a busy urban area just south of Sheffield’s core. From here, most points of interest in the city centre are no more than a 20-minute walk away, although it’s a good half-hour walk to get to Kelham Island.

The immediate neighbourhood is made up of modern commercial and residential buildings and there is a large Waitrose supermarket across a busy road.

Heading north into the city centre, takes you along The Moor, a pedestrian mall lined with shops. The Moor is a bustling shopping area but it isn’t the most attractive part of town; however, the area starts looking a lot nicer once you get north of here.

It’s only a four-minute walk to The Moor, and a 12-minute walk to the Peace Gardens and Millennium Square where you can find the Winter Garden. Other points of interest within an easy walk from the hotel include Graves Art Gallery and Millennium Gallery, which are both 15 minutes walk away, and Sheffield Cathedral and the National Videogame Museum are both a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

Premier Inn is the largest hotel chain in the United Kingdom and usually scores very high on customer surveys compared to other UK hotel chains. It operates at the budget end of the market providing a reasonably high standard of accommodation for the price, and is comparable to ibis and Travelodge hotels.
