Alcester dates from Roman times and the Roman Alcester Heritage Centre has exhibits showing what life would have been like in Alcester when it was a Roman settlement.
What to see at the Roman Alcester Heritage Centre
The museum has video presentations as well as exhibits of Roman artefacts unearthed around the town, including Roman pottery, coins and jewellery.
The museum’s exhibits are geared mostly towards children and it is a great spot to come if you have kids who are interested in history. However, it is not particularly interesting for adults visiting on their own without children.
Visiting the Roman Alcester Heritage Centre
The Roman Alcester Heritage Centre is in a building shared with the town’s library on Priory Road near the Waitrose supermarket just a two-minute walk from Alcester’s High Street.
Admission to the heritage centre is free of charge. It is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.
It is more child-friendly than the average museum with plenty of activities for children and it can sometimes get busy with school groups.
It is a small museum with just a single room and a visit shouldn’t take much longer than half an hour, although you can spend longer if you’re visiting with kids.
