Roomzzz Manchester City has spacious apartment-style rooms in a Grade II-listed historic building on the corner of Portland and Princess Streets in the city centre.
The hotel is comprised of 59 serviced apartments that vary considerably with six different classes of room ranging from the compact (but still spacious) Smart Studio to the massive Penthouse Suite.
The Smart Studio is Roomzzz’s entry-level studio apartment and comes with a comfortable double bed; a separate seating area with a television and a desk that doubles as a dining table; a small kitchen; ironing facilities and an en suite bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower. The Smart Studio apartments are 25m² (269 sq ft) which make them larger than your average hotel room.
The Grande Studio and Elegance Studio rooms are larger versions of the Smart Studio with the Elegance Studios boasting an extra (waterproof) television in the bathroom. The Grande Studio is 30m² (322 sq ft) and the Elegance Studio is 33m² (355 sq ft).
The Liberty Suite is a large open-plan space with all the facilities that you can find in the Studio apartments but with more space. The Loft Suites are larger again – these are 43m² (462 sq ft) – and are split over two levels with the bedroom and living zones separated by a spiral staircase.
All these apartments feature compact kitchens that are not fully equipped. They come with dishwashers, a fridge/freezer, a microwave, a hob and tea and coffee making facilities as well as all the basic utensils you should need, but there is no proper oven. In other words, you can make pasta or a casserole but you can’t bake a cake or make pizza.
All apartments are air-conditioned and all areas of the hotel have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access.
Each floor has a room with a laundry machine and dryer that are free for guests to use.
There are a handful of wheelchair-accessible apartments.
Some of the cheaper rooms don’t have a view as they look into a lightwell, but on the plus side, these rooms are quieter particularly on a Friday or Saturday night when the immediate neighbourhood can get quite lively.
Although the rooms are nice and spacious, there are no other communal spaces in the hotel other than a few seats next to the reception area. You can buy basic food items from the reception desk but there is no restaurant or bar in the hotel. However, you’re staying in the city centre so there is a lot of places to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity.
It is a three-minute walk to St Peter’s Square Metrolink tram stop and only a 10-minute walk to Manchester Piccadilly railway station.
