Sandcastle Waterpark is a popular indoor waterpark on Blackpool’s famous Promenade, just steps away from the iconic Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Opened in 1986, it has become one of the key family attractions in the seaside town, known for its wide array of slides, pools and water activities.
Sandcastle Waterpark was established to enhance Blackpool’s reputation as a family holiday destination and to expand the leisure offerings available along the Promenade. Over the years, it has developed a strong presence in the town’s tourism industry and has become a year-round destination due to its indoor nature.
The waterpark is designed with all ages in mind, with 18 different waterslides ranging from fast-paced thrill rides to gentler experiences for younger children.
For adrenaline enthusiasts, there are a series of high-speed slides such as the Master Blaster, the world’s longest indoor roller coaster waterslide, and the Sidewinder, a thrilling ride where you are tossed side-to-side in a small raft. Other rides, like Aztec Falls, offer dramatic plunges and high-energy twists. Those who enjoy wave pools can take a swim in Typhoon Lagoon, while younger children can splash around in the Shimmerin’ Shallows or Ushi Gushi River Creek, both featuring a gentler experience.
For a more relaxing experience, visitors can unwind in the Sea Breeze Spa, a dedicated area for adults seeking some time to relax with heated pools, steam rooms and soothing hot tubs.
Visiting Sandcastle Waterpark
Sandcastle Waterpark is on the South Promenade in Blackpool, directly north of Pleasure Beach. Its central position makes it easy to get to by public transport with the Pleasure Beach tram stop right outside the park.
The indoor nature of the waterpark means that it operates year-round, although opening times vary depending on the season and it only opens on weekends during the off-peak season.
Admission costs £24.95 with cheaper rates for children aged under 12.
You need to be 1.1m tall to ride the Sidewinder and children younger than eight-years-old cannot ride the MasterBlaster, Montazooma or Aztec Falls waterslides.
There are several places to eat and drink in the park. However, as it is a cashless venue, you need to pre-pay for a waterproof Splash Cash wristband, which you use to pay for food and drink in the venue. Your Splash Cash wristband is also used to operate your locker in the changing rooms. Unused funds are refunded at the end of your session; however, only £2 of the £3 wristband deposit gets refunded.
