Segedunum was built in 122 AD as the eastern-most outpost on Hadrian’s Wall and was used as a garrison for around 300 years of Roman rule.
During its heyday, the fort was home to 600 soldiers. It is the most thoroughly excavated fort on Hadrian’s Wall although most of the excavated ruins are restricted to the foundations of the original Roman fort.
The Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths and Museum complex features a reconstructed section of Hadrian’s Wall, a museum with exhibits about the fort and an observation tower that lets you look over the fort to see the extent of its layout.
