The Yorkshire

The Yorkshire is a four-star hotel occupying a prominent corner in the centre of Harrogate, close to the Montpellier Quarter.

The hotel was built in 1815, during Harrogate’s rise as one of England’s leading spa towns. The building’s sandstone façade and symmetrical frontage reflect early 19th-century civic architecture, designed to impress the growing number of visitors seeking the town’s mineral waters. Throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the hotel attracted guests visiting for leisure or health, taking advantage of its proximity to the Pump Room and the Turkish Baths.

The Yorkshire has 94 rooms spread across five floors, served by lifts. Rooms vary considerably in size and layout, reflecting the age of the building. Standard features include a work desk, a flatscreen TV, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and en suite bathrooms.

The décor is a mix of traditional and contemporary styles, with neutral tones, simple furnishings and framed prints referencing local landmarks.

The hotel’s main restaurant, the Pickled Sprout, has a menu comprising pub-style food made with locally sourced ingredients. The dining room has a contemporary style with large windows overlooking Harrogate town centre. The menu changes seasonally and includes vegetarian and vegan options. Signature dishes include Yorkshire lamb and seafood specials, and the restaurant has a relaxed, informal atmosphere suitable for both hotel guests and local diners.

The bar adjoining the restaurant offers a good selection of beers, wines and cocktails. It is popular with non-residents and is lively in the evenings, particularly on weekends. The bar serves light snacks and bar meals throughout the day, and outdoor seating is available during warmer months.

The hotel is close to Betty’s Tea Rooms and most points of interest in Harrogate, including the Royal Pump Room Museum, the Mercer Art Gallery and Valley Gardens are no more than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The bus and railway stations are also an easy walk from the hotel.
