Travelodge London City

The Travelodge London City hotel is a brand new hotel with a great location on the edge of the City of London. All the attractions in the City are within walking distance and being a Travelodge PLUS, it is a step above a standard Travelodge hotel.

Rooms at the Travelodge London City are a mix of double and family rooms. All rooms include comfortable king-size beds, a television, a work desk, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a shower.

In addition to standard rooms, this hotel also has SuperRooms, which are a bit like a premium economy room aimed at business travellers that don’t have the budget for a traditional business hotel. These rooms cost more and are bigger with a larger desk, more power points, a better shower and a Lavazza coffee pod machine.

There are also some wheelchair-accessible rooms available.

This hotel also has a small bar and restaurant (open 24 hours) and there are also plenty of other places to eat and drink nearby.

The Travelodge London City is relatively new so everything is much nicer than older hotels in the Travelodge chain. It is also what Travelodge call a Travelodge PLUS hotel, which is a step up from the average Travelodge in terms of style and comfort. Rooms and furnishings (even in standard rooms) are nicer than most other Travelodge hotels and the bar and restaurant area is a much nicer place to relax than what you find at other hotels in this price range.

Unlike most other hotels, only your first 30 minutes of Wi-Fi wireless internet is free. If you need more internet you have to pay £3 for 24 hours.

Although this is a budget hotel, prices can fluctuate depending on demand and it can be more expensive staying here during peak periods. It is one of the better value hotels in central London and it is a particularly good deal considering that it is a brand new hotel.

Middlesex Street marks the eastern boundary of the City of London and because it is on the eastern side of the street this hotel is technically in the East End rather than in the City. However, just walk across the road and you’re in the City of London and just a short walk to all the City has to offer. From the hotel, you can walk to the Gherkin in just seven minutes and within a 10 to 15-minute walk, you can get to the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street, All Hallows-by-the-Tower, Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and the Bank of England Museum.

The hotel is also just a short walk to Petticoat Lane, Leadenhall, Spitalfields and Brick Lane markets.

Both Aldgate (Circle and Metropolitan lines) and Aldgate East (District and Hammersmith & City lines) are just a three-minute walk from the hotel. Both stations are in zone one. Aldate has six trains in each direction on the Circle line and 15 trains per hour on the Metropolitan line and Aldgate East has 15 trains per hour on the District line and 12 trains per hour on the Hammersmith & City line. From here you can get to Kings Cross and St Pancras stations in just 10 minutes and Westminster is just a 12-minute ride away.

It is also close to Tower Gateway DLR station and it is just a 10-minute walk to Fenchurch Street and Liverpool Street railway stations.

There are over 500 Travelodge hotels in the United Kingdom. Travelodges in Great Britain, Ireland and Spain are a separate business to the Travelodge hotels that operate in Canada and the USA (which are run by Wyndham) and the Travelodge hotel chain in Australia and New Zealand (which is part of TFE Hotels). Although all Travelodge hotels worldwide serve the same ‘quality budget’ end of the market, if you’re used to Travelodge hotels in Australia, New Zealand or North America their hotels in the UK may be a little different to what you are used to.
