Trinity College is one of the 38 constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. Three former British prime ministers have attended Trinity as did Jay Gatsby, the fictional character from F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby.
What to see at Trinity College
The following areas of Trinity College are open to the public: the dining hall, the chapel and the college’s extensive gardens.
There are four quadrangles at Trinity as well as extensive lawns and gardens. The chapel and dining rooms are lovely, although some say that they’re not as impressive as some other colleges at Oxford.
Visiting Trinity College
Trinity College is located on Broad Street across the road from the Sheldonian Theatre. The main entrance is on Broad Street between Balliol College and Blackwell’s bookshop.
Trinity is open to the public every day and it maintains longer visiting hours than most other colleges at the University of Oxford. It is normally open 10.30am–noon and 1pm–4pm daily, although the dining hall is closed to the public every day for lunch (noon–2pm).
The admission charge is £3 (£2 for students and seniors) and visitors get a brochure with a map of the college and a suggested walking route. This college does quite a bit to cater to tourists and there is also a small gift shop.
Like other colleges at Oxford, Trinity College not all areas are open to visitors and it is occasionally closed to the public for university events.
