Village Hotel Blackpool is a modern hotel surrounded by 93ha (230 acres) of parkland near Blackpool Zoo, which offers a high standard of accommodation and excellent sports facilities. However, its location is inconvenient unless you’re driving.
The hotel has 174 guest rooms, which are split between standard and club rooms. All rooms have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, ironing facilities and an en suite bathroom with a rainfall shower. Club rooms cost a little more and include parking and access to the gym and swimming pool. Most rooms are 23m² (248 sq ft).
The Village Pub & Grill is the hotel restaurant and although it has a touch more character than you would expect from a bar in a modern hotel, it certainly doesn’t have the cosy atmosphere that you would normally expect from a place that calls itself a pub. There’s also a family restaurant called Helter Skelter that’s open Friday–Sunday.
The hotel also has an excellent fitness centre with a large heated indoor swimming pool, a spa pool, steam room and a sauna. Access to the gym comes at an additional £5 charge if you’re staying in a standard room but it is free for guests staying in the hotel’s club rooms.
Village Hotels are noted for their better-than-average fitness facilities and their Blackpool hotel goes a step further with an 18-hole golf course. Access to the golf course usually costs extra, although golf-and-stay packages are available.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.Village Hotels is a chain of hotels located mainly in suburban locations on the outskirts of large UK towns and cities but they have a more upmarket image than most other suburban hotels.
The hotel is near Blackpool Zoo, around 3.2km (2 miles) east of the town centre. The Model Village is less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel and Blackpool Zoo is a 15-minute walk away.
Although it is in one of the nicer areas of Blackpool, other than the zoo and the Model Village, there is not a lot of interest in the immediate area around the hotel. Other than the hotel’s bar and restaurant, there is not much in the way of other dining options nearby and it takes seven minutes just to walk to the end of the driveway.
The hotel’s location means that it is best suited if you’re driving, although parking is only free from 5pm on Friday until 3pm on Sunday unless you’re staying in a Club Room. If you’re staying Monday–Thursday, then only the first four hours of parking each day is free and then you’re charged if you stay longer.
There is a bus stop on East Park Drive but the buses that stop here (routes 12 and 18) only run an hourly service; however, you can walk into the town centre in around 45 minutes.
