Vindolanda is a Roman fort near Bardon Mill that predates Hadrian’s Wall.

Excavations here have unearthed an impressive collection of artefacts and rare documents that provide an insight into life in the Roman army. Visitors can visit a reconstructed temple, a section of the wall that has been rebuilt to its original size and a museum that displays many artefacts found here.
