West Park Hotel

The site was originally a 19th-century coaching inn, taking advantage of its location near the spa quarter and the open fields of the Stray. The current building was extensively refurbished and relaunched in 2014 by Provenance Inns, a small Yorkshire-based hospitality group known for its focus on locally sourced food and contemporary design. The renovation retained some historic features while giving the hotel a modern character suited to leisure and business visitors alike.

The West Park Hotel has 25 rooms spread over two floors, including several suites. The rooms vary in size, with some offering views over the Stray and others facing quieter residential streets to the rear. Decor throughout the property is modern, with neutral tones, upholstered headboards and wood-panel accents. The rooms are well-maintained and designed to a consistent standard.

Each room includes a flatscreen TV, a work desk, free Wi-Fi and tea-and-coffee-making facilities with Yorkshire Tea and freshly ground coffee. En suite bathrooms come with rainfall showers and heated towel rails. Suites add larger seating areas and freestanding bathtubs. Beds are fitted with good-quality mattresses and linen, though some rooms facing West Park may experience mild traffic noise at peak times. Overall, the accommodation offers a modern, comfortable setting with thoughtful details.

Public areas at the West Park Hotel include a restaurant, bar and small outdoor terrace but no gym or spa facilities. The absence of a fitness area may disappoint some guests, though the Stray directly opposite provides ample space for running or walking.

The restaurant serves modern British cuisine with an emphasis on Yorkshire produce. Dishes typically feature local meats, game and seasonal vegetables, and the menu changes regularly. The dining room combines contemporary styling with large windows overlooking the Stray, creating a bright and informal setting suitable for both hotel guests and walk-in diners. The adjoining bar has a relaxed atmosphere, offering local beers, cocktails and an extensive wine list. It can become busy on weekend evenings, as it draws a local crowd.

The West Park Hotel is on West Park, not far from the Stray, an 81-hectare (200-acre) area of protected grassland that borders the southern edge of Harrogate’s town centre. The immediate area has a calm, residential character, with tree-lined streets and period terraces. Despite its quiet setting, the hotel is only a short walk from Harrogate’s main shopping and dining areas around James Street and Parliament Street.

The location offers easy access to both leisure and business facilities. The Harrogate Convention Centre is about a 12-minute walk away, and the town’s Turkish Baths, the Royal Pump Room Museum, the Mercer Gallery and Valley Gardens can be reached in around 10 minutes on foot. The Montpellier Quarter, known for its independent shops and art galleries, is five minutes from the hotel. Bettys Café Tea Rooms, one of Harrogate’s best-known landmarks, is also within this area.

Closer to the hotel, you’ll find West Park right across the street and the Stray is just a couple of minutes’ walk south of the hotel. A Waitrose supermarket is just a five-minute walk away, and a few minutes’ walk north of the Waitrose will bring you to a multiplex cinema complex. The railway and bus stations are around an 8–9-minute walk from the hotel.
