Woolley Grange Hotel is a country hotel in a Jacobean manor house set amongst 5.6ha (14 acres) of grounds on the northern edge of Bradford on Avon.
The 17th-century manor house has 25 guest rooms. Although the smallest room is only 13m² (140 sq ft) most of the rooms are relatively spacious and some of the suites are positively enormous with the 85m² (915 sq ft) Hayloft, a two-bedroom suite, sleeping up to seven (two adults and five children). All the rooms have comfortable beds, a work desk, a television with a DVD player and an en suite bathroom with either a bath or shower.
For a hotel in an old manor house, it is surprisingly child-friendly. The hotel has two children’s zones: the Woolley Bears Den, a creche for children aged between 12 weeks and eight years, and the Hen House, an area for older children with a pool table, table football, board games and an in-house cinema. The hotel’s two lounges also have big chests of wooden toys for children to play with and there is also a tractor, chickens, a swing and a fairy garden on the property. The big benefit of all the child-friendly features is that keeping the children happy means that parents can get some time to themselves too. For instance, the children’s Breakfast Club looks after the children so their parents can enjoy their morning coffee undisturbed. From a parent’s point of view, it is child-friendly done right. It keeps the kids happy without having a hotel that resembles a childcare centre (just because your children liked the Legoland Hotel, it doesn’t mean that you did). Finally, a family-friendly hotel made for grown-ups.
The hotel’s public areas include two lounges with big comfortable sofas and the hotel also has two restaurants. The Orangery is the more casual family-friendly option and there’s a fine dining restaurant for more sophisticated dining. The menu is based on local ingredients (with some ingredients grown on the premises) and there is an extensive children’s menu.
Woolley Grange is noted for its afternoon tea (served in the Orangery) and the afternoon tea menu includes a children’s afternoon tea with more kid-friendly drinks (a choice of babycino, milkshake or hot chocolate). However, it is a tad expensive compared to afternoon tea elsewhere in the country.
The hotel’s family-friendly vibe extends to mealtimes and you can send the kids to the children’s high tea and after they’re tucked in bed, enjoy a romantic meal in the restaurant.
There is a spa in the hotel’s walled garden with two treatment rooms using Elemis products as well as two 12m (39 ft) swimming pools (one indoor and another outdoor) plus a grass tennis court, a croquet court and football nets.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
It’s not cheap but if you have both money and children, there’s no better place to stay if you’re visiting Bath or Bradford on Avon.
The hotel has a semi-rural location on the northern edge of Bradford on Avon, however, you can walk into the town centre in around 20 minutes and drive to Bath in 25 minutes. The hotel has a free on-site car park with electric car charging facilities.
