The YHA Eastbourne youth hostel is a good accommodation option for backpackers and independent budget travellers visiting Eastbourne. It is a relatively new hostel with modern facilities but it is on the edge of town with not a lot in the immediate neighbourhood.
It is a small hostel that only has 30 beds. Accommodation is in single-gender dormitories and private rooms and all rooms have en suite bathrooms. One of the rooms is adapted for wheelchair users. There is a bedside lamp, powerpoints and a large locker for each bed (big enough for a backpack) although you need to supply your own padlock.
Common areas include a TV lounge and a fully-equipped kitchen as well as an indoor dining area and lovely grounds with picnic tables that are a nice spot to sit on a sunny day. There are also self-serve laundry facilities available for guests to use.
There is free Wi-Fi wireless internet access in the common areas but not inside the rooms.
This hostel is only open between March and October. Outside this time is only available for group bookings.
The hostel is located on East Dean Road on the western edge of Eastbourne in a green area wedged between two golf courses. There is not a lot in the immediate area and it is around a 15-minute walk to an area with a supermarket and a couple of pubs but it is a 20-minute walk back to the hostel as it is up a fairly steep hill. Bus routes 12, 12A, 12X, 13X and N12 (Brighton & Hove Buses, not Stagecoach) stop outside the hostel en route between Eastbourne town centre and Brighton and generally run every 20 minutes.Parking is available at the hostel, which makes it a good option if you’re driving.
