This well-preserved medieval town between Deal and Ramsgate has a lovely town centre with a couple of historic attractions. Sandwich has a rich history dating back to Roman times. Once an important Cinque Port, it has preserved its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed buildings. Its attractions include the Sandwich Guildhall Museum and the nearby Richborough Roman Fort and Amphitheatre.
It is known as the home of the sandwich, although the food was named after the 4th Earl of Sandwich who had no connection with the town.
Sandwich is served by frequent rail and bus services, connecting the region to London and to other destinations in Kent.
Sandwich is on the rail line that runs between Ramsgate and Dover, providing connections farther afield to London and to other destinations in Kent and the southeast.
It is also served by local bus routes including routes 81, 81A and 81B, which connect Sandwich with Deal and Dover.
