Cricket Field House

Cricket Field House is a former gamekeeper’s cottage that has been transformed into a small hotel. It is a charming place to stay that gets great reviews from guests and it makes a welcome change to staying in a bland chain hotel.

The 10 spacious rooms all have comfortable beds, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. There are also some larger apartments with fully-equipped kitchens that are ideal for families or groups of friends travelling together.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the property.

It has lovely gardens that make it a relaxing place to stay. However, apart from the gardens, there is not much in the way of public areas outside your room. This means that there is no on-site restaurant and you need to go into town (either Salisbury or Wilton) for your dinner. However, a full-English breakfast is included in your room rate, which includes excellent local bacon, eggs and sausages.

Cricket Field House has a quiet location around halfway between Wilton and the city centre. It is a charming small hotel with only 10 rooms and it gets excellent reviews from travellers who prefer to stay somewhere more intimate than your average chain hotel. (Photo: Maigheach-ghael [CC BY-SA 2.0])

Cricket Field House is next to the South Wilts Cricket Club on Wilton Road (the A36) around midway between Salisbury city centre and Wilton. Although not particularly central, it is in a pleasant location and there is a convenience store, a pub and a fish and chip shop within a two-minute walk.

You can walk into the centre of Salisbury in around half an hour, although the bus is a more convenient option for most people. The closest bus stop is a two-minute walk up the road (near the Halfway House pub) with regular buses into the city centre and also to Wilton.

The hotel’s location away from the city centre (and the free parking) means that it is best suited if you’re driving.
