Delta by Marriott Swindon

Like many hotels in Swindon, the Delta by Marriott Swindon hotel (formerly the Swindon Marriott Hotel) is a large bland chain hotel located away from the town centre. However, it is within walking distance to Swindon’s Old Town which makes the location better than some of Swindon’s other hotels.

Delta is a Canadian-based hotel chain that was bought by Marriott in 2015. Although Delta hotels are located primarily in Canada and the northern United States, during 2022 Marriott re-branded around 25 of its UK hotels, including this one, into Delta by Marriott hotels. These hotels generally represent the UK’s older Marriott hotels and they are located in primarily regional locations. These hotels were starting to look a little dated; however, Marriott has confirmed that these re-branded hotels will go through a renovation programme from late 2022 and to late 2023.

The hotel has 156 guest rooms, which all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom.

The rooms are relatively spacious ranging from 22m² (246 sq ft) to 26m² (293 sq ft) and the one-bedroom suite is 52m² (582 sq ft).

Wi-Fi wireless internet access comes at an additional charge unless you’re staying in one of the superior rooms. Free internet access is sometimes also available for members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme.

The hotel’s Cast Iron Bar & Grill is a casual restaurant with set lunch and dinner menus plus an a la carte menu that includes burgers and salads.

Like many American chain hotels, both the decor and the food are a little bland and uninspiring.

The hotel also has its own leisure club, which includes a gym, sauna, a heated indoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Spa treatments are also available.

The hotel’s location outside the town centre means that there is more space for extra amenities including a tennis court. (Photo: Marriott)

The Delta by Marriott Swindon is 2.5km (1½ miles) south of the town centre. Despite being located outside the town centre, it has a better location than many other hotels in Swindon and it is possible to walk from here to the Old Town in 10 minutes and walk into the town centre in half an hour. The hotel is set in a pleasant green area next to the Intel office building. Although there is not much of interest in the immediate area, it is only a 10-minute walk to Swindon’s Old Town and around a half-hour walk to the town centre.

The closest bus stop is around a four-minute walk away on Marlborough Road and from here there is around one bus every 15 minutes into the town centre.

Free car parking is available, which makes this hotel a great option if you’re driving.
