Aside from tourism, Keswick’s main industry is the Cumberland Pencil factory, which churns out the famous Derwent colouring pencils.
Adjoining the factory is the Derwent Pencil Museum, a museum dedicated to pencils that includes displays about how pencils are made as well as machinery, exhibits about artistic techniques. The museum is also home to the world’s first pencil and the world’s largest coloured pencil.
