The DoubleTree by Hilton London Heathrow hotel offers a high standard of accommodation for the price but, for an airport hotel, it is a long way from the airport. It is a good value option if you want to stay in a four-star hotel and are willing to put up with a longer commute in exchange for a cheaper place to stay.
The hotel’s 200 guest bedrooms all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a large flat screen television, ironing facilities, a trouser press, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. Several of the rooms are equipped for guests who require wheelchair access.
The Touchdown restaurant serves classic British and European meals and lighter meals are available in the adjoining bar area.
There is not much of interest in the immediate area and the main attraction is the proximity to Heathrow Airport but even the airport isn’t that close. It is located on Bath Road but a little farther from the other Bath Road hotels. Buses run every few minutes with buses from the airport stopping outside Heathrow House (the office building next door to the hotel) and buses to the airport departing from the Moxy hotel across the road.
It is also possible to take a bus in the other direction to Hounslow West tube station and then take the tube to the airport. This option is around five minutes quicker but it costs more.
Another option is the Hotel Hoppa bus to the airport terminal but this bus costs £5.50 (£6 if you buy your ticket on board the bus) for a one-way trip and these buses run less frequently than the regular buses.
The DoubleTree by Hilton is farther from the airport than most other Heathrow Airport hotels and it takes longer to get to your terminal. This means that the location is less airporty in the sense that there are regular neighbourhood shops within walking distance as opposed to only hotels and other airport-related businesses. This gives it a little bit of local character (although Cranford is hardly London’s most charming neighbourhood) and it also means that local shops and restaurants are priced for local residents. Within a five-minute walk, you will find a great little Portuguese restaurant called Moniz, a kebab shop and a branch of Tesco Express.
A benefit of the inconvenient location is that is much cheaper than staying closer to the airport or in central London. You can generally count on saving between £100 and £150 per night staying here compared with one of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in the centre of London. Because of this, some people stay here and commute into the city centre with the combined bus and tube journey taking around an hour (if you’re travelling into central London it is best to take the bus to Hounslow West tube station and then catch the tube from there).
Parking is available at the hotel but it costs £12.50 per day.
