DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa

Liverpool’s DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Spa is a lovely hotel in a 19th-century Grade II-listed building with period features that include mosaic floors, Corinthian columns and stained glass windows.

Hilton spent nine years restoring the former Liverpool Conservative Club and they did a lovely job retaining the Victorian-era building’s heritage aspect. The old building lends the hotel a big serving of character and because of this, this particular hotel feels much grander than standard Hilton hotels, which usually tend to be in more modern purpose-built buildings.

The hotel has 87 air-conditioned guest rooms, which all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, ironing facilities, a mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms with bathrobes and slippers. Standard rooms are 25m² (269 sq ft), superior rooms are a little more spacious at 33m² (355 sq ft) and deluxe rooms are 34m² (366 sq ft). Some of the rooms are adapted for guests in wheelchairs.

The hotel’s suites a much bigger and more luxurious, particularly if you splurge for the 74m² (796 sq ft) Presidential Suite. Like the standard hotel rooms, most of the hotel’s suites have a contemporary decor but the Presidential Suite goes all-in for over-the-top heritage-style decor.

The hotel’s dining areas retain the charm of the former gentleman’s club with a racing theme in the Koukash Bar & Restaurant and comfortable leather Chesterfield sofas in the Library Lounge. The Library Lounge is the real highlight of the hotel and is well worth a visit but it is occasionally closed for private events.

The hotel is also home to the Eforea Spa, which includes spa treatment rooms plus a steam room, sauna and hydrotherapy pool. Access to these facilities is charged at an additional £15 for guests staying in standard rooms, however, it is free if you’re staying in a deluxe room or suite.

The hotel is located at the northern end of the city centre, not far from Moorfields station (a three-minute walk away). Most points of interest in the city centre are no more than a 10-minute walk from the hotel, including the Cavern Club, the Magical Beatles Museum, Liverpool Lime Street railway station, Liverpool One bus station, the World Museum, the Central Library, the Walker Art Gallery, the Western Approaches Museum and the Three Graces.
