Depending on how far in advance you book, the easyHotel in the Grade II-listed Flat Iron Building in Manchester’s Northern Quarter can be one of the best value places to stay in the city.
Rooms are very small at the easyHotel, but it is big enough for a double bed, a television and a small en-suite bathroom. However, there’s no room for a desk and there’s no wardrobe, just a couple of coat hangers stuck to the wall below the TV.
The rooms are too small for tea and coffee making facilities, but there is a coffee machine down the corridor (£1 for a cup of coffee).
It is very clean and has a bright modern decor, although not everyone is a fan of the bright easyJet orange.
The hotel is owned by easyJet and it is run on much the same lines as a budget airline. Rooms are priced according to the same yield management pricing strategy where rooms are very cheap if you book well in advance but more expensive if you leave things to the last minute. Also like budget airlines, all those little extras that would normally be free at other hotels come at an additional charge. Do you want to watch the telly? That will be an extra £5 to rent the remote control. Need wireless internet access? That’s an extra £5 per day.
It is one of the cheapest places to stay in Manchester, but the cheap beds sell out quickly and once they have sold out the remaining beds are considerably more expensive. If you book well in advance to get one of the cheap rooms then the easyHotel is probably the cheapest private room in Manchester and certainly preferable to the other bargain hotels in the city centre, like the Britannia Hotel and the Britannia Sachas Hotel. We’re told that you usually need to book three months in advance to snag the cheapest rooms but it is still worth checking if you’re travelling sooner, particularly if you’re travelling in the quieter season.
Ground floor rooms can get noisy, particularly when rubbish trucks come by early in the morning. Fortunately, earplugs are available at the reception desk, and surprisingly there is no additional charge for these.
There are a handful of wheelchair-accessible rooms and these are larger than the standard rooms.
easyHotel Manchester is located in the Northern Quarter around midway between Manchester Piccadilly railway station and the Arndale Centre. It is less than a 10-minute walk to Piccadilly station.
