Eight is a small independent boutique hotel in the centre of Bath. The hotel is a conversion from an old townhouse and was named Eight because it had eight rooms and there were eight dishes on the restaurant’s menu; however, it has since expanded to a nearby townhouse and now has 18 guest rooms.
The rooms all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flatscreen television, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. The smallest room is only 9.5m² (102 sq ft), although most of the rooms are much more spacious and the largest room is 32m² (344 sq ft).
There is a small restaurant on the ground floor of the original townhouse, which was originally used as a refectory for monks from the abbey. The menu has eight dishes with a focus on seasonal locally-sourced ingredients and the food is of a very high standard. It is worth trying to book a table even if you’re not staying in one of the rooms upstairs.
There is also a small bar in the basement below the restaurant, and this is a great place to end your day before heading upstairs to bed.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Because it is such a small hotel, there are not a lot of other public areas other than the restaurant, bar and reception area; however, the hotel more than makes up for this with personal service and attention to detail.
You couldn’t find a more centrally-located hotel than this. It is right in the city centre next door to Sally Lunn’s and less than a two-minute walk from Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths. It is only a five-minute walk to the railway station and most points of interest in Bath are no more than a 10-minute walk from here.
