The George and Pilgrims Hotel, also known as the George Hotel and Pilgrims’ Inn, is a historic hotel in Glastonbury’s town centre that dates back to medieval times.
The hotel is a Grade I listed building that was built in the 15th century to accommodate pilgrims visiting Glastonbury Abbey and it is considered to be the oldest purpose-built pub in southwest England.
The George and Pilgrims is comprised of a cosy pub and 14 guest rooms. All rooms have comfortable beds, a flatscreen television, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. The rooms have a traditional-style decor as you would expect from a hotel that is over 500-years-old.
It also has architectural features associated with the medieval period including narrow passageways, leadlight windows and a crenellated stone parapet. The building certainly has character and many people believe that it is haunted.
As you would expect for somewhere so old, the pub has loads of atmosphere. It is a great spot for a drink or two and it serves excellent traditional British cuisine.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel is on High Street in the town centre just a few doors up from the Glastonbury Tribunal and it is a one-minute walk from the entrance to Glastonbury Abbey.Pop around to the back entrance if it looks closed from the street. Note that there is no reception area and you should contact the hotel prior to arriving for check-in instructions.
Although the hotel does not have its own on-site parking, there is a large public car park to the rear of the hotel.
