The 120-room Hampton by Hilton London Croydon hotel is a large modern hotel in Croydon town centre in London’s southern suburbs. Although Croydon is not a particularly charming part of London, it enjoys excellent transport connections to Central London and Gatwick Airport and it is a lot cheaper than staying somewhere more centrally located. The hotel offers a high standard of accommodation for the price and it is a popular place to stay for people visiting on business.
Rooms have comfortable beds, a work desk and either a tub chair or a sofa bed with an ottoman and rooms with a sofa bed can sleep up to three guests. All rooms come with a flat screen television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom.
Most room rates include a complimentary hot breakfast and guests have access to the hotel’s fitness centre.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel has a restaurant and there is also a bar and a lounge area with a fireplace.
Business facilities at the hotel include four meeting rooms.
The hotel offers a high standard of accommodation for the price but it lacks the charm of some more centrally-located hotels. However, it is better than most other hotels of a similar standard in the London area and its location away from the centre means that it can often be a very good value place to stay, particularly for a Hilton. Considering that this hotel is less than half the price of Hampton by Hilton hotels in central London, it is well worth taking the 17-minute train ride out to Croydon.
The hotel is in Croydon town centre around midway between East Croydon and West Croydon railway stations. Of these two stations, East Croydon has more trains with train services into central London running every couple of minutes and also direct trains to Brighton and Gatwick Airport. It is only a four-minute walk to East Croydon station (it is quickest to walk down Dingwall Road and Caithness Walk and enter through the station’s rear entrance).
Although the Croydon location is not particularly attractive, it is convenient to shops and there are lots of places to eat and drink nearby including Boxpark Croydon (a trendy food court made up of food stalls set up inside shipping containers) which is only a five-minute walk away. Even though it is located way out in zone five far from the centre of London, transport connections are excellent and you can be in either central London or Gatwick Airport in less than 20 minutes.
