The ibis London City – Shoreditch hotel is a modern hotel with a central location just a couple of minutes’ walk from the edge of The City of London.
It is a relatively large hotel with 348 rooms, which all have comfortable Sweet Beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. However, the 15m² (161 sq ft) rooms are relatively compact.
The hotel has its own bar, which is inspired by Brick Lane, and there are loads of other places to eat and drink nearby.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Like other ibis hotels, this hotel is more design-focused than many hotels in the same price range, although the hotel’s exterior does look somewhat bland.
Despite calling itself a Shoreditch hotel, it is much closer to The City of London than to Shoreditch. The edge of the Square Mile is only a three-minute walk from the hotel but it takes around 10 minutes to walk to Shoreditch.
The hotel is where The City of London meets the East End and this is reflected by the immediate neighbourhood which is a mix of modern office buildings and older brick buildings, which are more indicative of the End End. Its proximity to Shoreditch and The City means that the neighbourhood is quickly gentrifying and this means that there are lots of interesting places to eat and drink nearby.
From here, it is only a five-minute walk to Brick Lane, which is famous for its Bangladeshi restaurants and both Spitalfields and the Truman Brewery Markets are under a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
Most points of interest in The City are no more than a half-hour walk away. This includes the Bank of England Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery, the City of London Police Museum, the Gherkin, the Monument, the Museum of London, Old Bailey, the Sky Garden, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
The hotel is virtually next door to Aldgate East tube station and you can walk to Aldgate tube station in four minutes. Liverpool Street station is around a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
It is generally best to walk the extra few minutes to Aldgate if you’re heading towards King’s Cross, as trains from Aldgate are more frequent in this direction, although Aldgate East is fine if you’re heading to Monument or Westminster. Both stations are in zone one with Aldgate East served by the District and Hammersmith & City lines and Aldgate served by the Circle and Metropolitan lines. From Aldgate East, it takes four minutes to get to Monument and 15 minutes to Westminster with trains running every 3–4 minutes and from Aldgate, it takes just one minute to Liverpool Street or 11 minutes to King’s Cross & St Pancras International with trains running every 2–3 minutes.
