The nautical-themed Liner Hotel is a good value place to stay that is just around the corner from Liverpool Lime Street railway station.
The hotel, which was formerly known as the Gladstone Hotel, has an ocean liner theme that highlights the role that Liverpool played as a major passenger shipping hub in the days before safe and affordable air travel. It’s a great spot to stay if you like the idea of a cruise but don’t fancy the thought of being out at sea with the risk of running into a giant iceberg. However, some aspects of the theme are a little overdone and the interior designers have gone overboard in the bar and restaurant area.
The hotel has 152 clean and well-maintained rooms. The rooms (or should I say cabins) have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flat-screen television, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. Some rooms look a little dated but overall they are clean and well-maintained.
There are several bars and restaurants inside the hotel, which offer drinks and casual meals in a relaxed environment. However, some of the dining areas, particularly the Castaway Bar, have taken the nautical theme too far and end up feeling a little kitschy.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel is on Lord Nelson Street, just around the corner from Liverpool Lime Street railway station. The station is only a three-minute walk from the hotel and St George’s Hall, the Liverpool Central Library, the Walker Art Gallery and the World Museum are all within a five-minute walk from the hotel. It is around a 15-minute walk to Mathew Street and around a 25-minute walk to Albert Dock and the Liverpool waterfront.
Free parking is a huge plus, particularly for such a centrally-located hotel.
