Middlesbrough train station is on the Esk Valley and Tees Valley rail lines with frequent trains to destinations in northeast England including Bishop Auckland, Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Newcastle, Saltburn and Whitby. Most rail services are run by Northern, except trains to Manchester (via York and Leeds) which are operated by TransPennine Express.
From Middlesbrough, there two trains per hour to Darlington and hourly trains to Bishop Auckland, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and York. There are also direct services to Liverpool and Whitby.
Although there are some direct rail services to larger cities like Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle, Middlesbrough’s location on a branch line means that it is usually best to change trains at Darlington, particularly if you need to go to London or the Midlands.
