The Moxy Slough hotel is a stylish hotel within easy commuting distance to Windsor and London.
The hotel opened in February 2021 as part of a nine-storey twin hotel complex in a building shared with a Residence Inn hotel (both Moxy and Residence Inn are part of the Marriott hotel group).
Most of the hotel’s 152 rooms are configured as either twin or double rooms and at just 19m² (204 sq ft) they are smaller than other hotel rooms in the Marriott stable but larger than the rooms in most other UK Moxy hotels.
The rooms are designed to make the most of the smaller space and, despite the compact size, they don’t feel too cramped. All rooms are air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, large flat-screen televisions, a small work desk and a compact en suite bathroom. The rooms do not have tea and coffee making facilities, nor do they have much in the way of storage facilities. There are no cupboards, although there is a stand to rest your luggage on and a spot on the wall where you can hang your clothes up.
There are also some larger Moxy Triplet rooms for guests who prefer a little more space. These rooms are 21–27m² (226–291 sq ft).
The ground floor space, which includes the bar/reception area, features a funky interior design and it has louder music than your typical hotel lobby. In many ways, the atmosphere is like a very nice hostel with vibrant communal spaces on the ground floor where it is easy to strike up a conversation and get to know your fellow guests.
The ground floor common area also has a business centre/work area, which makes a good workspace if you feel that the desk in your room is a little too small and there is also an ironing room (the rooms don’t have their own ironing facilities) and lockers, which are handy if you need somewhere to store your gear after checking out.
The communal spaces are very well done and I like the idea of creating a hostel-style atmosphere in a hotel, however, some people complain that the whole vibe of the place makes them feel old.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
Moxy is a Marriott hotel brand that is aimed at the millennial market and it is priced at the budget end of the market, just a step up from ibis, Travelodge and Premier Inn. It appears that Moxy is chasing the same design-focused millennial market as Marriott’s high-end W Hotels brand but Moxy’s big advantage is that millennials can actually afford to stay here.
The hotel has a convenient location right in the heart of Slough with most points of interest in the town centre no more than a 10-minute walk away. It is right across the street from the Slough Museum it is only a five-minute walk from Slough railway station, which has frequent trains to London and Windsor.
It is considerably cheaper to stay in Slough than in Windsor or central London and Slough’s excellent transport connections mean that you can be in Windsor in only six minutes (with three trains per hour) and in central London in as little as 15 minutes (with five trains per hour).
