The Municipal Hotel & Spa is a luxury hotel in the former Liverpool City Council offices that is part of Accor’s upmarket MGallery brand. It’s one of Liverpool’s best hotels.
The hotel’s 168 rooms all have comfortable beds, a flatscreen television, a work desk, ironing facilities, a fridge, tea-and-coffee-making facilities and an en suite bathroom with a nice big walk-in shower. All rooms, even the cheapest rooms, come with bathrobes and slippers.
The hotel’s 11 suites are larger with separate living and sleeping areas as well as better facilities such as bigger beds and Nespresso pod coffee machines.
The hotel also has several restaurants, which all offer an upmarket dining experience. These include the Seaforth Restaurant, the Botanic Tearoom and Palm Court. Seaforth is a fine dining restaurant with a menu based on modern British and European cuisine and the Botanic Tearoom is probably Liverpool’s best spot for afternoon tea but the jewel in the crown is Palm Court, a beautiful bar with fake palm trees and a colonial-style atmosphere in the building’s atrium. It looks like it’s trying to look like some of the outdoor areas of Raffles in Singapore, except it’s an indoor space. Although primarily a bar, Palm Court also has an all-day dining menu.
The hotel has its own fitness centre, which is free for guests before 10am and after 6pm as well as spa facilities, which cost £30–50 per person.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel is at the northern end of the city centre and it’s only a five-minute walk into the heart of the city. From here, it is less than a 10-minute walk to the Cavern Club and the Liverpool Beatles Museum on Mathew Street, the Liverpool Central Library, the Walker Art Gallery, the World Museum, St Johns Beacon, the Western Approaches Museum and the Liverpool waterfront where you can find the British Music Experience, the Royal Liver Building and the Pier Head ferry terminal.
Moorfields station is just a two-minute walk around the corner from the hotel and both Liverpool Lime Street railway station and Liverpool One bus station are no more than a 10-minute walk away.
