Newcastle railway station (sometimes called Newcastle Central station) is a major train station on the East Coast Main Line (the main Edinburgh–London rail line) and it is served by four different rail operating companies.
From Newcastle, there are six trains per hour to Durham and York, three trains per hour to Leeds, two trains per hour to Birmingham New Street, Derby, Edinburgh, London King’s Cross, Manchester (one to Manchester Piccadilly and one to Manchester Victoria), Sheffield and hourly trains to Bristol, Cheltenham, Liverpool, Oxford and Reading.

Newcastle railway station is on Neville Street in the city centre and is served by Central Station on the Tyne and Wear Metro. It is a major station with plenty of shops including Boots the chemist, Paperchase, Sainsbury’s and WHSmith newsagents plus places to eat and drink including ATM, Costa, Caffè Nero and Pumpkin.
