The Old Forge

The Old Forge is a small bed and breakfast in East Kennet around a half-hour walk south of the Avebury stone circle.

Accommodation is in four spacious well-appointed rooms that all have comfortable beds, televisions, a fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. A full-English breakfast is included in the room rate.

The Old Forge is a former 16th-century smithy decorated in a charming country style and it has a nice lounge area as well as a lovely outdoor space. It is a lovely spot to stay if you love the countryside but it is not as conveniently located as Avebury Lodge.

It is around a half-hour walk south of the Avebury stone circle and there are closer Neolithic sites nearby including the Sanctuary, West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill.

Local bus route 42 stops just a two-minute walk away and the faster X76 bus leaves from a stop that is a 12-minute walk away. Both buses go to Marlborough where you can change for buses going farther afield. However, its rural location (and free parking) means that this place is more suitable if you’re driving.
