The Premier Inn London City Aldgate is a good value accommodation option considering its central location.
All the rooms at the Premier Inn London City Aldgate are double rooms; however, these are split between standard and standard extra rooms. All rooms feature a king-size Hypnos bed and a comfortable chair, a writing desk, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom. Standard extra rooms also feature ironing facilities, a better work desk, better tea and coffee making facilities and faster Wi-Fi. Some wheelchair-accessible rooms are also available.
All rooms have free Wi-Fi wireless internet access (up to 1GB per day).
The hotel also features Bar & Block Steakhouse restaurant, which has a menu centred around beef. The hotel restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner.
Like other hotels in the Premier Inn chain, this hotel is clean and well maintained offering a great value accommodation option but it is somewhat lacking in character.
The immediate neighbourhood is characterised by highrise office and residential buildings. There is a good selection of places to eat and drink nearby and it is only a four-minute walk to Brick Lane, which is noted for its excellent choice of Bangladeshi restaurants.
The hotel is just east of the City of London (it’s only a three-minute walk to the Square Mile) and most points of interest in The City are no more than a half-hour walk away. This includes the Bank of England Museum, Guildhall Art Gallery, the City of London Police Museum, the Gherkin, the Monument, the Museum of London, Old Bailey, the Sky Garden, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.
Aldgate East tube station is a three-minute walk from the hotel and it is a six-minute walk to Aldgate station. It is generally best to walk the extra few minutes to Aldgate if you’re heading to Liverpool Street or King’s Cross, as trains from Aldgate are more frequent in this direction, although Aldgate East is fine if you’re heading to Monument or Westminster. Both stations are in zone one with Aldgate East served by the District and Hammersmith & City lines and Aldgate served by the Circle and Metropolitan lines. From Aldgate East, it takes four minutes to get to Monument and 15 minutes to Westminster with trains running every 3–4 minutes and from Aldgate, it takes just one minute to Liverpool Street or 11 minutes to King’s Cross & St Pancras International with trains running every 2–3 minutes.
Premier Inn is the largest hotel chain in the United Kingdom and it usually scores very high on customer surveys when compared to other UK hotel chains. It operates at the budget end of the market and provides a reasonably high standard of accommodation for the price, and is comparable to ibis and Travelodge hotels.
