Queens Hotel

Queens Hotel is a Victorian-era hotel on the seafront close to The Lanes and Brighton Pier. It is a more upscale hotel than many of the other three-star hotels along Brighton’s seafront but still represents good value if you stay here during the quieter season.

The hotel has 94 guest rooms plus nine one-bedroom apartments and five studio apartments. The apartments are in a separate building and the hotel rooms generally offer a better sea view.

The hotel rooms have comfortable beds, a flat-screen television, a small desk, tea and coffee making facilities and en-suite bathrooms. Some larger rooms also have a small fridge.

The five studio apartments come with a comfortable double bed, large flatscreen television, en-suite bathroom and a small kitchen with a fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee machine. Some of the studio apartments also have their own laundry facilities. The studio apartments are somewhat cramped, much like a regular hotel room with a kitchenette added on as an afterthought.

The hotel’s nine one-bedroom apartments offer similar facilities but in a larger space with a separate bedroom and lounge/kitchen area. All the one-bedroom apartments have their own laundry facilities.

Like many older hotels in the United Kingdom, rooms at Queens Hotel are not air-conditioned.

Rooms are decorated in a style that combines contemporary and traditional decor, which means that they have a neutral colour scheme and modern fittings but also antique-style wood and leather furniture, older style bedside lamps and moulded ceilings with chandeliers. For the most part, this is tastefully done although some people may find it looks a little dated.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel’s No. 1 Bar & Bistro on the ground floor offer views of the seafront. It is quite a nice space but the menu is all over the place with no clear speciality so you can order burgers, steaks, a Chinese stirfry, an Indian curry as well British and French dishes. The restaurant also serves cream tea and afternoon tea. The buffet breakfast (included in your room rate) is served here.

Other hotel facilities include Lanes Health Club, which combines a fitness centre with a large indoor swimming pool (which they claim is Brighton’s largest hotel pool) and a sauna. Guests have free use of these facilities but they are also open to the public for an additional charge (£5 if you’re staying somewhere else and just want to use the pool and gym for the day or £30 for a monthly membership).

It has a very central location facing the sea and backing onto The Lanes. Brighton Pier, the SEA LIFE aquarium, Brighton Fishing Museum, Brighton Dome, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and the Royal Pavilion are all within a five-minute walk from the hotel and most other points of interest in central Brighton are no more than a 10-minute walk away.
