The Radisson Blu Edwardian Heathrow hotel is a large upscale hotel on Bath Road north of London Heathrow Airport. It is a well-appointed hotel but, like other hotels on Bath Road, it suffers from a charmless location and the only way to get to the airport terminal is by bus.
The hotel was built in 1992 and it was last renovated in 2016. Although the hotel is only around 30 years old, the exterior brings to mind the sort of neo-classical casino you may find in 1970s Las Vegas and the colour palette inside the rooms (which features lots of brown alongside beige and burnt orange) also takes you back to the seventies.
The first thing you see is the reception area, which looks somewhat opulent for a relatively modern airport hotel with polished marble, antique-style furnishings and a massive chandelier. While this sort of decor is appropriate in a 200-year-old building, it feels phoney and out of place in a hotel that was built in the 1990s. Although there are some people who feel that this decor lends a touch of elegance to the hotel, it is easy to draw a parallel between the hotel’s reception area and Donald Trump’s bathroom.
Despite all this, the hotel is quite nice inside with upmarket bars and restaurants and well-appointed guest rooms.
The 464 hotel rooms all have comfortable beds, a work desk, a small fridge, a flat screen television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms with Sicilian marble and REN toiletries. All rooms are air-conditioned and there is free Wi-Fi wireless internet access throughout the hotel.
The restaurants and bars are actually very nice. They include Annayu, an Indian restaurant, the Steak & Lobster Restaurant (no prizes guessing what they serve there) and the Bijou Lounge Bar. This is one part of the hotel where the decor actually works. After a few drinks at the Bijou Lounge Bar or the Steak & Lobster Restaurant, you’ll feel that you really are staying somewhere special, another drink before heading back to your room and you may actually warm to the brown, orange and beige colour scheme.
The hotel is one of many airport hotels on Bath Road north of Heathrow Airport. The closest bus stop is around a four-minute walk from the hotel and buses to the airport are frequent enough that you shouldn’t have to wait longer than a few minutes and it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes to walk to the bus stop and catch a bus to the airport.
You can also take the Hotel Hoppa bus to the airport terminal but these are more expensive at £5.50 (£6 if you buy your ticket on board the bus) for a one-way trip and these buses run less frequently than regular buses. However, the Hotel Hoppa may be a good option if you are travelling with a lot of luggage as it stops right outside the hotel entrance as opposed to stopping down the road.
There is not a lot of interest in the immediate neighbourhood, which consists mostly of office blocks and other hotels. However, there is a McDonalds nearby if you don’t fancy hotel or airport food.
Car parking is available but at £16 per night, it is fairly expensive.
