The Sloane Square Hotel is one of the best-located hotels in Chelsea with a brilliant location right on Sloane Square. It was formerly known as the Royal Court Hotel and was renamed the Sloane Square Hotel in 2005 prior to a major renovation.
The building has been used as a hotel since the 1890s and in 1960, Peter Llewelyn Davies (who is credited as the inspiration for JM Barrie’s Peter Pan) stayed here prior to committing suicide at Sloane Square tube station. Along with nearby Kings Road, the hotel played a role in the Swinging Sixties phenomenon and The Beatles stayed here for several weeks in 1962 and returned on several occasions in 1963 including for a photo session in February of that year.
The hotel has 100 guest rooms, which range from compact 14m² (150 sq ft) single rooms up to 25m² (269 sq ft) club rooms and the 27m² (276 sq ft) junior suite. All the rooms have comfortable beds, a writing desk, a flatscreen television, tea and coffee making facilities including a Nespresso coffee machine and en suite bathrooms.
The rooms are decorated in a traditional-style decor which some people may find a little dated. However, this does give the place a little more character, particularly when compared with your average sterile chain hotel.
The hotel’s Côte Brasserie restaurant has an atmosphere inspired by traditional Parisian brasseries along with a good value prix fixe menu and despite being part of a large chain, the restaurant offers an upscale dining environment.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.
The hotel is right on Sloane Square in the heart of Chelsea, which is one of London’s loveliest residential neighbourhoods. The Sloane Square location means that you’re in the centre of Chelsea’s main shopping district and Kings Road is only a two-minute walk away.Other points of interest within walking distance include the National Army Museum, the Chelsea Physic Garden and Harrods, which are around a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Walk another five minutes and you can get to London Victoria railway station, Buckingham Palace, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A.
Sloane Square tube station is just a one-minute walk from the hotel. It is in zone one and lies between South Kensington and Victoria on the Circle and District lines. From here it is only a five-minute ride to Westminster and 16 minutes to Monument with trains running every two minutes.
