Slough bus station

The new Slough bus station is a huge improvement over the old one and it features a modern building at the northern end with a shop, cafe and waiting room. As neither Megabus nor National Express coaches stop in Slough, it is mostly local bus services that stop here and the most popular services for most visitors are buses to London, Windsor and Heathrow Airport.

Slough’s striking new modern bus station opened in 2011, replacing the Brutalist Brunel Bus Station that featured in the opening credits of The Office.

The new Slough bus station is a huge improvement over the old one and it features a modern building at the northern end (facing Slough railway station) with a shop, cafe and waiting room and the southern end of the bus station features a 70m (230 ft)-long canopy covering the outdoor waiting area adjacent to the bus platforms.

The bus station’s design has been likened to everything from a beached whale to a dolphin and also a slug, but the architects, bblur architecture, say that the design represents waves of light inspired by local scientist William Herschel (who is credited with discovering Uranus).

As neither Megabus nor National Express coaches stop in Slough, is is mostly local bus services that stop here and the longest direct bus journeys you can make from Slough are to High Wycombe, London or Reading.

The most popular bus services that most tourists use are the services to Heathrow Airport (the most frequent services are to terminal five, although some services continue to the Central Heathrow Bus Station), the Greenline 702 service to London, Green Line 702 and 703 services to Windsor Legoland, bus route 15 to Eton and buses to Windsor.

The Green Line 702 coach service to London can be a good alternative to the train, depending on whereabouts in London you need to get to and also what time of the day you are travelling. The coach terminates at the Green Line Coach Station near London Victoria with stops in Hammersmith, Kensington and Knightsbridge and is handy if that is the part of London that you need to get to, however it is generally more expensive than the train unless you are travelling in the afternoon.

Slough bus station is at the northern end of the town centre right across the road from Slough railway station. It is just a two-minute walk to a massive Tesco supermarket and less than a five-minute walk to Queensmere Observatory shopping centre.
