The Slough Museum is surprisingly interesting and it highlights some fascinating aspects of the town, although it does have a unique layout inside the town’s library.
Most visitors to Slough stay here simply because it is a cheap accommodation alternative to staying in London or Windsor, however those that decide to pop into the museum will find that the town has more going for it than you would initially expect.
What to see at the Slough Museum
The museum has a unique layout. Rather than a conventional museum gallery, the museum is comprised of exhibition ‘pods’ located throughout The Curve complex. The eight exhibition pods are essentially cube-shaped kiosks with exhibits on specific aspects of the town, which are located throughout the library complex.
The museum’s exhibits include displays that depict the town’s links with Charles Dickens and the Beatles, the Mars Bar and the Horlicks drink. There are also exhibits about Slough resident William Herschel, who discovered the planet Uranus.
Visiting the Slough Museum
The museum is located inside The Curve complex, the new library and cultural centre complex in the centre of Slough. It is only a two-minute walk to the Queensmere Observatory shopping centre and a five-minute walk to Slough railway station. The Premier Inn Slough Central South and Travelodge Slough hotels are both around a five-minute walk to the museum and the Holiday Inn Express is less than a 10-minute walk away.
As the exhibition pods are located inside the library, entry to the museum is free of charge.
Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the complex and the entire complex is wheelchair accessible.
