Snoozebox Olympic Park

Snoozebox Olympic Park is a budget hotel constructed from shipping containers. The rooms are well designed and staying here is much nicer than you would expect.

The hotel’s 78 guest rooms are all air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, a flatscreen television and an en suite bathroom. At only 7.2m² (77 sq ft), the rooms are small but they are also well designed to make the most out of their limited space and there are handy storage options built into the beds including a slide-out shelf that doubles as a work desk.

The mattress is very comfortable so you should get a great night’s sleep, even though it may not feel so comfortable when you initially sit on it. One drawback is that I heard lots of strange noises coming from the pipes when I stayed here to review the hotel. I heard these noises shortly after using the shower, sink and the toilet but the noise stopped eventually so it didn’t keep me up at night.

Access to your rooms is via an outdoor corridor, which means that it’s not the most pleasant walk to your room during winter or if the weather isn’t so good.

Being built from shipping containers, Snoozebox has a temporary feel and it feels like it has been designed so it can be pulled apart and moved elsewhere.

Although the in-room facilities are rather limited in comparison to many other hotels, Snoozebox has a lot of common areas including a large semi-outdoor bar/common area that makes it feel a lot like you’re staying in a hostel, but that’s a good thing as hostels can be a lot of fun. I can imagine that it would have a great atmosphere on a busy night and I’ve heard that it can get lively after the Abba Voyage show. However, it was really quiet the night I stayed, although I did stay on a Tuesday night when the Abba show takes a night off.

There’s also an indoor lounge area near the reception where breakfast is served in the mornings. Breakfast costs an extra £10. It’s not really worth £10, although there aren’t a lot of other breakfast options around the hotel.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

It is located south of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford in East London. The immediate vicinity surrounding the hotel is a former industrial area that is in the process of being redeveloped into a residential area. The neighbourhood is a mix of modern blocks of flats, vacant former industrial land and construction sites where the vacant land is being redeveloped into more modern blocks of flats.

At this stage, there are not many places to eat and drink in the immediate area but it only takes a few minutes to walk to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (where there are a few cafes) and Stratford High Street is only a few minutes in the other direction, although it is around a 15-minute walk into the centre of Stratford. The main points of interest in the immediate vicinity are Abba Arena, a purpose-built theatre/stadium built for the Abba Voyage concert experience that runs five nights a week, which is right across the road from the hotel as well as the ArcelorMittal Orbit and West Ham’s London Stadium, which are both around a 10-minute walk from Snoozebox.

The hotel is right across the road from Pudding Mill Lane DLR station, which is on the Stratford to Poplar branch of the DLR, just one station below Stratford. It is an 11-minute ride from Canary Wharf with trains running every six minutes, Stratford is a two-minute ride in the other direction. You will need to change at either Stratford or Canary Wharf if you’re going into central London but this is made up for by the convenience of having the station across the road from the hotel.

Car parking is available for £1.99 per night, making it a great option if you’re driving and want to stay close to central London.
