Southsea Hoverport is the departure point for the only remaining commercial hovercraft service in the UK. It provides a fast link between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, offering an alternative to ferry crossings. The terminal is on the Southsea seafront, close to Clarence Pier and within walking distance of local attractions.
The hovercraft runs between Southsea and Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The crossing takes around ten minutes, making it the fastest way to reach the island. Services operate frequently throughout the day, with additional crossings during peak periods. Ryde provides access to other parts of the Isle of Wight, including onward connections by train and bus.

Visitor facilities
The hoverport has a ticket office where passengers can buy tickets or check service updates. Seating is available in the waiting area, and there are vending machines offering drinks and snacks. Nearby, Southsea has various cafes, restaurants and shops within walking distance. Clarence Pier and Southsea Common are close by, providing additional amenities for visitors.
Transport connections
Although not as well located as the conventional ferry terminal at Gunwharf Quay, Southsea Hoverport is well connected to public transport. Buses stop nearby, providing links to Portsmouth city centre and Portsmouth & Southsea railway station.
The hoverport’s location on the seafront means visitors can walk to nearby attractions such as Southsea Castle and the D-Day Story. Portsmouth’s main shopping areas and historic sites, including the Historic Dockyard, are a short bus or taxi ride away.
