The Bath Priory

The Bath Priory is an upmarket country house hotel with loads of character yet within easy access to central Bath, which is around a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

It is a large mansion house dating from the end of the Georgian era, which is built from Bath stone and covered with ivy. The hotel has a traditional-style decor in keeping with the historic nature of the building and it is set among 1.6ha (4 acres) of grounds, which include a lovely garden and well-maintained lawns.

The hotel has only 33 guest rooms, which all have comfortable beds, a sitting area, a writing desk, a flatscreen television, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and a marble en suite bathroom with a large rainfall shower, bathrobes, slippers and L’Occitane toiletries. One of the ground floor rooms is wheelchair accessible.

Rooms are spacious starting at 25m² (269 sq ft) for the classic rooms and going up to 45m² (484 sq ft) for the suites.

The rooms are all individually styled and the general design aesthetic is in line with the hotel’s public areas and in keeping with the traditional decor that you would expect from a country house hotel.

Like a proper country house hotel, the Bath Priory has several lounges where guests can sit and relax. These include the Library and the Drawing Room

Dining facilities at the Bath Priory are a couple of notches above most other hotel restaurants, particularly in the main restaurant. Executive chef Jauca Catalin previously worked in Bucharest and Canterbury and has developed an inventive fine dining menu that blends traditional British and European cuisine with Asian flavours.

There is also a nice terrace to the rear of the hotel overlooking the garden where you can enjoy a drink, a light meal or afternoon tea.

Both the restaurant and the terrace are delightful places to enjoy afternoon tea, although it is a tad pricey when compared to other hotels and restaurants elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

The hotel features a L’Occitane-branded spa with a L’Occitane boutique, treatment rooms, a sauna and an indoor swimming pool. There is also an outdoor swimming pool in the hotel’s expansive gardens.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the indoor areas of the hotel.

The Bath Priory is located in a residential area around 1.6km (1 mile) east of the city centre. Although it is a pleasant area, there is not a lot of interest in the immediate vicinity around the hotel and you will either need to dine at the hotel or go into the city centre if you’re looking for something to eat or drink.

From the hotel, you can walk into the city centre in around 20 minutes and much of this walk is a lovely stroll through Victoria Park.

There is plenty of free off-street parking available, which makes it a great option if you’re driving and want to stay somewhere fancy.
