DoubleTree by Hilton Bath

The DoubleTree by Hilton Bath hotel is a large hotel at the eastern edge of the city centre, which offers a high standard of accommodation and many of its rooms have lovely views of the River Avon.

The hotel was formerly the Hilton Bath City and it recently reopened as a DoubleTree by Hilton after a £12 renovation. This renovation means that the rooms are much nicer than before and the public areas have also been improved (although they somehow still look a little dated), although the exterior remains as unattractive as before.

In a city noted for its distinctive Georgian architecture, the DoubleTree by Hilton stands out as one of its ugliest buildings. In fact, the Bath Chronicle ranked the hotel as the city’s ugliest building in a 2017 poll, beating even the Avon Street car park and the Kingsmead Telephone Exchange.

With 176 guest rooms, this is one of Bath’s largest hotels (although the Apex Hotel and Hampton by Hilton are bigger).

All rooms are air-conditioned and have comfortable beds, a work desk, a flatscreen TV, ironing facilities, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. Many of the rooms have a lovely view of the River Avon.

Emma’s Bar, Restaurant and Cafe is the hotel’s main dining area, which has a relatively casual atmosphere and the hotel also has two bars, but they don’t have the atmosphere of a proper pub. Although it’s nice to have a hotel bar for those times when you want a drink without leaving your hotel, you’re much better off popping across the road to Bath’s oldest pub, the Saracen’s Head, for a proper pub atmosphere.

The Secret Garden is another dining space with lovely views of Pulteney Bridge and the River Avon. Although it is an indoor space there is lots of natural light and greenery, which gives it the feel of a sunlit conservatory.

Free Wi-Fi wireless internet access is available throughout the hotel.

The hotel is in the city centre, just north of Pulteney Bridge and most points of interest are no more than a 10-minute walk from here.
