The Town Hall Hotel is a luxury hotel located inside Bethnal Green’s former town hall. It has a strong focus on design with an emphasis on Art Deco and mid-century modern styles and its Bethnal Green location means that you can stay away from the tourist hotspots while still having easy access to Central London.
The hotel is part of the Design Hotels collection and as you would expect, there is a strong focus on design. In this instance, the interior design theme is Art Deco mixed with mid-century modern even though the Grade II-listed building is Baroque-style Edwardian. The focus on design means that the hotel, and its restaurant, are both fashionable although it is a different design aesthetic to other places in East London and you will certainly feel comfortable staying here if you’re not part of East London’s hipster subculture.
A large portion of the hotel’s 96 rooms are spacious studios, suites and apartments and only 12 of the rooms are regular double rooms. Because many of the rooms are larger than usual, it is a good option for families who need a little more space.
The 12 double rooms all have bespoke furnishings including comfortable beds and a work desk, a flatscreen television, ironing facilities, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities and an en suite bathroom with bathrobes and a shower/bathtub combination. Double rooms range from 25–30m² (269–323 sqft).
The studios, suites and apartments have all these features plus a lot more space, measuring 21–73m² (344–785 sq ft), and they are self-contained with kitchenettes so you can prepare your own meals.
The hotel’s Corner Room restaurant is a beautiful space with a brasserie-style menu focusing on modern European cuisine.
In-house business facilities include a meeting room inside the Town Hall’s former council chamber.
The hotel also has a fitness centre and there is a heated indoor swimming pool in the hotel’s basement.
Bethnal Green is an up and coming neighbourhood in East London. Once a primarily working-class area, it is now becoming a popular spot for hipsters who have been priced out of nearby Shoreditch. Because of this, there is a really good choice of places to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity.
Nearby attractions include the Young V&A, which is only a three-minute walk away and it is surprisingly quick to get into central London from here.
The hotel is around midway between Cambridge Heath Overground and Bethnal Green Underground stations, both of which provide a direct link to Liverpool Street in The City. The service is more frequent from Bethnal Green tube station and from here it is only a three-minute ride to Liverpool Street and Oxford Circus is just 13 minutes away.
